OBI's Coronavirus Updates

In an effort to educate and help keep our OBI friends and family safe during this global pandemic, we have compiled this page of resources related to remaining healthy and happy while coping with COVID-19.

Like many businesses across the country, OBI was forced to abruptly close our doors and stop services at the onset of the pandemic. Since March 16th, our industry has been challenged like never before, to creatively find new ways to meet the needs of the individuals we support. While our building remains empty today, we are supporting nearly half of our clients in some capacity. Many are receiving individualized virtual supports (via Facetime and Zoom) and numerous individuals log on every day to one of our group Zoom parties. Others are enjoying in-person services that occur either in their homes or in the community; staff have become experts at helping individuals explore their communities and find fun and meaningful things to do.

OBI’s Employment Services team has been working harder than ever, as well. Prior to COVID-19, we were supporting approximately 90 individuals who worked in jobs throughout Anne Arundel and surrounding counties. As a result of COVID-19, many of these individuals unfortunately lost their jobs, but the OBI team has been working diligently to help them get back to work and/or to prepare them for their next career opportunity. We are extremely proud of the six individuals we support who never stopped working throughout the pandemic – they are true heroes, and deserve to be celebrated as such, just like every other essential worker out there!

Check out some pics we’ve captured… the smiles speak for themselves, even through the masks!

The Leadership Team at OBI closely monitors all guidance put forth by the CDC, as well as state and local health authorities. We continuously update our policies and procedures to remain relevant and we adjust our practices accordingly in effort to keep the individuals we support and our employees safe and healthy. THANK YOU to all of our staff, as well as our clients and their family members and caregivers, for adhering to our safety guidelines and for doing your part to slow the spread of COVID-19.
